Hi, I’m Mary Susan! I am a Birth Doula serving Cleveland and the surrounding areas. I was certified as a Birth and Bereavement Doula in 2015 through Stillbirthday and I am currently in the process of completing my Birth Doula certification through DONA International.
As a doula, I believe in the incredible, innate strength of women’s bodies and the partners who support them. I believe that knowledge is power and I am constantly striving to learn. I promote evidence-based research, I support the empowerment of women and families, and I deeply believe that birth is a beautiful mix of physical, spiritual, emotional forces all coming together to create one of the most profound events in the human experience. I also think that birth can be pretty fun.
Outside of birth work, I’m the mother of four, a former English teacher and children’s librarian, and a hand embroidery artist. So, I’m basically nailing it on the old lady status. I’m originally from Texas and I moved to Cleveland with my family in 2012 and stayed for the weather and the pierogis. I love to laugh, I attempt to journal, and I think Mr. Rogers hung the moon.
I believe that birth can be a beautiful and peaceful experience for all involved. I am a huge advocate of evidence-based research and helping women feel empowered to make choices based on fact, rather than out of fear. I believe that birth affects the whole person-physically, mentally, and spiritually-and that when all three areas are connected and working in harmony birth becomes a joyous transition into motherhood.
I stay busy as a mom of four young children. I homeschool my children using the classical education model, love my essential oils, and think that Starbucks should deliver. As a family, we are obsessed with The Greatest Showman and dream of someday owning a cabin in the mountains. I’m an introvert raising extroverted children, and think snuggling up with a good book is a perfect way to end any day.
